Travel across the heart of Central Europe and through one of the world’s great beer regions. From impressive Prague, through festive Munich, to medieval Bamberg, we explore breweries, pubs, beer gardens, cellars and restaurants pouring a seemingly endless variety of classic and modern beers.
In the Czech Republic, we spend three days in Prague with its centuries-old brewpubs and cafés, well-preserved architecture, cool neighborhoods and bustling public squares. A daytrip to Lobec — an historic brewery beneath a castle-chateau in the Czech countryside — brings us to a beautifully restored brewery and cellars, while a stop in Plzeň and the famous Pilsner Urquell brewery connects us with the original Pilsner.
Next we find ourselves in the heart of Bavaria with a visit to Essing and an overnight at Schneider Brauereigasthof, a traditional brewery guesthouse along the Altmühl river. Then it’s on to Munich and the world’s biggest beer festival: Oktoberfest. Two nights in Munich provide time to enjoy the festival and explore the capital of Bavaria. Medieval Bamberg, home to ten traditional breweries and infamous Rauchbier, welcomes us for our final three nights — a UNESCO-listed city where fresh beer from wooden casks and half-timbered streets make a perfect finale.
Beer, Food, History & Local Flavor — From Prague to Bamberg
This journey links three iconic beer cultures: Czech lager in Prague and Plzeň, Bavarian fest beers and wheat beers in Munich, and Franconian lagers and smoky specialties in Bamberg. Along the way we visit classic breweries and cellars, neighborhood pubs, beer gardens and historic towns that live and breathe beer.
We balance guided city walks and brewery tours with free time to wander, sample local dishes and explore on your own. Expect hearty Central European food — roasts, dumplings, sausages, potato salads and roast pork knuckles — paired with some of the freshest beers you’ll ever taste.

About the Cities & Regions We Visit
Prague — Bridges, Castles & Lager Culture
Prague’s skyline of spires, bridges and castle towers provides the backdrop for a deep beer tradition. Historic cellars, cafés and brewpubs serve pale lagers, dark lagers and specialties alongside Czech comfort food. It’s a city made for walking between pints.
Lobec & Plzeň — Countryside Brewery & the Original Pilsner
Lobec is home to an historic brewery tucked beneath a castle-chateau, recently restored and brewing characterful Czech lagers in a distinctive rural setting. Plzeň hosts Pilsner Urquell, the brewery that gave its name to an entire style. Together they tell the story of pale lager’s rise from local curiosity to global phenomenon.
Bavaria — Essing, Kelheim & Munich
Essing offers a brewery guesthouse experience at Schneider Brauereigasthof — beer, food and bed under one roof — in a quiet corner of Bavaria along the Altmühl river. Kelheim introduces us to Bavarian wheat beer traditions, and Munich adds grand beer halls, leafy beer gardens and the whirlwind of Oktoberfest.
Bamberg — UNESCO Streets & Rauchbier
Bamberg is a medieval jewel and a beer city through and through. Ten breweries within the city and many more nearby pour lagers, kellers, bocks and the famous smoky Rauchbier. Narrow lanes, riverside paths and church towers frame a walkable, deeply atmospheric final stop.

TRAVEL DETAILS:
Air Travel is not included. Travelers are encouraged to use mileage awards, travel outside group dates, or visit other European cities while abroad to make the most out of the trip. Please confirm the trip’s operation before purchasing air tickets.
Most Trips officially begin in the lobby of the first hotel. Meeting times, information about getting from the airport or train station to the hotel, the detailed itinerary, hotel addresses, and a trip roster will be included with your Final Trip Documents, which you’ll receive 2 – 3 weeks before the trip.
How we travel on tour: All included excursions and visits include transportation. Within the cities, we rely on walking and private or public transportation (uber, taxis, busses, trams, etc.). Travel between cities is by private motor coach, luxury van, ferry, and/or rail.
REGARDING INCLUDED MEALS AND BEER:
We don’t mess around when it comes to food and beer. Restaurants — tried and true — have been carefully selected, based on quality, local knowledge, and insider tips. On a Beer Trip, included meals mean you may order as you please – including beer, appetizers, dessert, etc. We are not stingy — a lot of food and beer is included on every Beer Trip.
PLEASE NOTE:
A BeerTrips beer tour is best suited for somewhat adventurous, beer-loving travelers who want the camaraderie and structure of a tour, as well as the opportunity to explore independently. Planned events, brewery visits, locally guided tours, and some excursions are, of course, formally “guided”. Travel days, on trains, public means, or the beer bus, as well some group walks, are blissfully unstructured, though travelers can always rely on the support and assistance of the trip leader.
THIS ITINERARY IS SUBJECT TO CHANGE:
In rare cases, it may be necessary to alter the itinerary based on brewery or hotel availability, force majeur, acts of dieties, common sense, or bad weather, etc. Smaller breweries, as well as the Trappists, are often unable to commit to hosting groups until a couple of weeks before we arrive. Substitutions, when necessary, will be as good as what we replaced. And, don’t worry, the beer is always good!
