The
Montana Rivers, Parks and Breweries Adventure
July 24 - August 3, 2008

Come to Big Sky Country for
an adventurous, activity-packed exploration of Western Montana and
its many fine breweries. Begin in Kalispell, where we'll meet and
immediately head out to Flathead Lake for tastings at two breweries
followed by a brew pub dinner. Next, we spend 3 nights in around beautiful
Glacier NP. We'll meet with a naturalist for a guided hike, have an
entire free day to hike and photograph wildlife, as well as raft the
Middle Fork of the Flathead River - wetting our whistles on tasty
local beers the way. And that is just the first 3 days. Stays in Helena,
our home town Missoula and Bozeman offer great access to spectacular
Montana scenery and cool excursons, as well as a host of breweries.
The 10-night trip includes breakfast everyday, a hike with a Park
naturalist, 2 days of rafting, many fine beer meals, brewery visits,
2 international beer tastings, "beer touring" by private
coach, historic western cities, and fine hotels -- with optional opportunities
to fish, hike, mountain bike and check out a Montana cityscape or
two.
Daily
Itinerary:
Thursday,
July 24 - The trip begins today at 3:00 PM in the lobby of the
Kalispell hotel. After a welcome beer, we'll board the bus for a trip
out to Flathead Lake Brewery and Tamarack Brewing Co. for visits and
tasting. We'll have a welcome dinner back in Kalispell
this evening - perhaps to be followed by a bar visit or two.
Friday,
July 25 - We travel via coach this morning, to the northeast corner
of spectacular Glacier National Park and our historic home for two
nights, the Swiftcurrent Motor Inn - the ideal spot for hikes, wildlife
viewing and photography. Along the way we'll stop for lunch
and a local beer or two. Upon arrival we'll check-in to our rooms
and later meet a naturalist guide for an interpretive hike and a chance
to learn about the park's rich history and diverse flora and fauna.
Bears, moose and bighorn sheep are regularly seen in this part of
the park. Our guide will also be an excellent resource for activities
during our stay. The evening is free.
Saturday,
July 26 - Today is totally free with many options of varying length
and cost to choose from - including fishing, hiking, park tours and
more. Small hiking groups will likely form. Complete details and prices
for options will be provided to registrants. Surely meeting up for
a few beers is in order tonight.
Sunday,
July 27 - This morning we will drive the famous Going to the Sun
Road over Logan Pass. We'll stop at the visitors center and have time
for pictures atop the pass, before descending down to Lake MacDonald
Lodge for lunch (on your own) and a chance to explore a bit. This
afternoon we'll have a half-day raft trip on the Middle Fork of the
Flathead followed by a BBQ dinner and beer tasting.
Overnight in West Glacier.
Monday,
July 28 - This morning we head to Missoula -- BeerTrips.com's
base of operations and home to three worthy breweries. Along the way
we'll drive through the beautiful Seely - Swan area, with a lakeside
picnic lunch and beer sampling en route. Upon arrival
in Missoula, we'll check in to our downtown accommodations. Evening
free in Missoula
Tuesday,
July 29 - We'll call today Bitterroot day, as we travel up the
Bitterroot valley for spectacular scenery, hiking, some time on
the river and a visit and tasting at Bitterroot Brewing. Return
to Missoula this evening.
Wednesday,
July 30 - This morning is free to enjoy Missoula's historic
downtown or any of a variety of outdoor activities. Later this afternoon,
we'll go whitewater rafting through Alberton Gorge, followed by
visit to Bayern Brewery. Beer dinner tonight in
Missoula.
Thursday,
July 31 - This morning we cross the continental divide en route
to Helena. Along the way we'll stop for a bit of Montana history
and lunch. In Helena, home to a couple of fine
breweries, a local guide will show us around and fill us in on some
of Montana's more interesting historic chapters. The eveining is
free.
Friday,
August 1 -
This
morning is free to explore Helena a bit, before we travel to Bozeman
for the last 2 nights of the trip. We'll check out the Bozeman brewery,
visit the historic downtown and take in the Bozone. The
evening is free for pub crawling and the like.
Saturday,
August 2 - Today is open for optional excursions including,
fishing, rafting, mountiain biking or riding the gondola to the
top of Big Sky Resort for some top-of-Montana hiking, dining or
beer drinking. After a busy day we'll have a hearty beer dinner
to celebrate our trip. Get 'er done.

Sunday,
August 3 - Alas, all things must come to an end -- or perhaps
you'll extend your trip with a visit to Yellowstone, just 2 hours
from Bozeman. Bozeman's airport serves a variety of carriers and
